Name of old science fiction movie?

There was a cheesy science fiction film, from the 70s or early 80s, I remember seeing as a kid that involved two men in a spaceship in deep space. In one scene, one dictates a report that their entire supply of toilet paper was destroyed in a recent fire. Then some kind of creature or alien gets on board that looks a lot like a bouncing ball. I think it ends up luring one of them to his death under an elevator or some kind of heavy equipment. Anyone know the name of this film?
